Have spent a month away and one of the places I visited was the Alice Springs Desert Park. Most of the mammals in this part of Australia are nocturnal, it's only us humans who are stupid enough to be outside in the daylight heat. From what I understand nocturnal animals don't have colour vision as we know it. These creatures don't see red light as we do.

This means that bright red lights do not disturb them, they do see it, but they don't think its bright.

So at night, using high power red torches I attempted to photograph them feeding as they would normally. The big problem I had was I didn't take my f1.2 with me, didn't expect to need it. It was bad enough taking 3 lenses in the backpack without adding another 500g. I ended up using my 24-105, which was way to slow.

I was wondering has anybody seen a Red flash, diffuser or similar for a DSLR? I just thinking about a better way of shooting.

PS: I was originally going to call this Red Light Photography
