Daniel Browning said "the 17-55 has far superior image quality " I disagree. Check Brayan's ISO 12233 Chart 100% Crop Comparison. The 24-105 is much sharper than the 17-55.

The 24-105 would be better for Macro, Nature and portrait than the 17-55. The 17-55 would be better for Landscape and possibly action allthough I have used the 24-105 for indoor basketball with good results. The only time I have run into the 24 not being wide enough on a crop body was indoors in a small room but I do not shoot much wide angle. If you need wide angle then the 17-55 is for you.</div>
