I was hoping for a side pose of this young female cardinal, to get the tail in the plane of focus but it was very windy and the birds wouldn't stay put.
shot with Canon 5dIII , 400mm f5.6L . 1/500 , iso 800. I used AV mode because the sun kept coming through the clouds and I couldn't keep up changing the shutter speed.

Wow, the detail in that shot is amazing, Stuart!! Joel, love the black background with the male cardinal!

I haven't posted for awhile but after the last few months, it's time to get back in the saddle so to speak! Here are a few I've taken over the last few days ...

It was foggy and the only black thing might be the heron's eye - there are a bunch more on flickr - the one thing that is difficult is getting the softproof colors to reflect the difference between the 10 bit and 8 bit moves. If you haven't gotten a 10 bit monitor you owe your self one. Now w/ the 4k TVs being 10 bit, etc. and very cost effective large displays - you just have to turn off all the setting in the TV that try to manage the image.

Thanks, Joel! He was just walking around my neighbor's front yard as I was pulling out of the driveway with dogs in the car. Of course, I had to run back in the house to get my camera ...as the dogs patiently waited!

Here's another from that morning ...
