Ben, Beautiful shot---I think the gate adds to the shot as well. It gives the shot that "out on the ranch" feeling. nice job.

no wonder it's 700mm. Joel, Congratulations! it looks like a very sharp copy, we can expect more stunning shots coming from you!

Joel, Congrats on the new glass. I am confident you will be very happy with it. It's a great lens and should suit your needs well on your upcoming trip . Two suggestions if you haven't already done so:

    1. Update your insurance

2.Consider a Gimbal head, The Wimberly Sidekick is a great compromise and holds the 500 very well.---I love mine and haven't even thought about a full size gimbal head since I purchased it.

I can't wait to see what you do with this new lens

Thanks for the tips, looking forward to many opportunities to use the 500

Joel, that's a lovely shot of the red squirrel. We have them round here too, but they are very shy. How far away was it, and did you have to crop the shot?

Ben, that lightning shot is shockingly good (pardon the pun).

Steve, I'm glad there's somebody to post lovely shotsfrom their garden. I'll be lucky to see mine in daylight before next spring.

Went for a ten mile hike in the Cairngorms National Park today. It was either that or finish cutting my conifer hedge. I think I made the right choice.

    The "Punch Bowl"

Some 82mm filters for this lens are on my Christmas list.

Two great shots Andy, like the water flow and the second one is post card material.

Andy, I like the "Punch Bowl" best, but I am a sucker for a water falls.

I have not been very good about getting to my shots in a timely fashion and processing them. Just got to this one from September.

Andy... Another sucker for waterfalls here, nice shot. But I really like #2. Very peaceful. Love it.

Conrupl. If they are that good I am happy to wait. Great capture.

    Great shots, Andy and conropl!

Andy, FYI Schneider Optics (parent of B+W) recently came out with an 82mm 10-stop ND. Not widely available, 2filter.com has them (mine came on Friday).

Thanks, the squirrel was around 60-70 feet away and the image is cropped probably 50% or so but with the 500mm + 1.4 TC on a 1.6 crop factor body you have 1120mm focal length effectively!
