Tried out another lens (EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 L IS USM) and another zoo this weekend bit better results with the chain link.

Was able to virtually make the link disappear in next two sample shots

No I'm not stuffed... and no, open your own wine bottle.

    EOS REBEL T2i, ISO 100, 1/160 sec, Aperture 5.0, Focal Length 108mm

I coined the term cat nap... now leave me be I'll show you how it's done.

    EOS REBEL T2i, ISO 100, 1/30 sec, Aperture 5.6, Focal Length 300mm

and one I just like, no chain link

    Peek a boo!

@Kombi Wow, talk about pushing the IS on that lens: 1/30 @300mm on a 1.6 crop sensor. I'm amazed it came out as sharp as it did! There must not have been very much light even though it looks like daytime - nasty overcast? On my T2i I'm hard-pressed to find the noise in my shots at ISO 400 - it's really no worse than 200 imo. But I've got to give it to you, I can see no evidence of the chain links.

Yes sky was very overcast at time of picture (like the sky behind the mountain goat) , the mountain lion was also under a bit of a shelter in the shade I used a bit of 'fill light' in picasa to see the image.
    for comparison
    ISO 100, Exposure 1/250 sec, Aperture 5.6
    ISO 3200, Exposure 1/400 sec, Aperture 7.1
    ISO 100, Exposure 1/60 sec, Aperture 5.6
    ISO 100, Exposure 1/30 sec, Aperture 5.6
link to larger images on picasa with full exif

These are actually from a trip I took to San Diego in October. Sadly, because of residency I have just now been able to visit a view of them. The one of the seal was not in the zoo, it is actually a wild seal shot on the beach. Got all up in the sand to get that shot.

Sorry Huge Post. After going over these I realize I should have been shooting the tigers with a much higher shutter speed. I think I just got so excited that they came over to the front since I had been waiting at the fence for 30 minutes, I just lost track of what I was doing. Hence amateur photographer.

    Thanks for looking anyway.

    Dave.
