Yes everyone is fine, we've got a fair amount of spare space out here so nobody has been exposed at this stage. Although the highway out of town has been closed for the last few days.
I think it will be a good thing provided nobody is hurt etc in the process. It's a natural part of the yearly cycle out here. It gets dry for most of the year, the spinifex grass and weeds flourish (which none of the livestock or native animals can eat), a giant fire comes through just as spring hits and kills it all off. Everything grows again and the place is beautiful for a few months, only to dry out again when the rain stops.
I think the difference this year is that we really didn't have many bush fires last year, so there was a lot more fuel and hence the fires have been larger.

Sometimes I think California is one big petting zoo.
This friendly creature showed me where the hidden trails with a much better ocean view were:

and the rest of the wildlife, instead of running and hiding, yawns in my face and falls asleep:

I haven't been in this thread for awhile. Thanks guys for the compliments on the butterfly shots and the framing!
Wonderful bee shots, Dave ...I need to use my 135L more often!
@ Arnt - I agree, those are very impressive wildlife shots!

Thank you Pat and Denise.
Some of the parks around here make it easy for a focal length limited beginner. Sometimes i think the animals are on payroll for posing for visitors. I still think about the 100-400 sometimes vs the 70-300 that I got, but for now I'm very happy with my choice.

Hey guys I'm new here. Here's a photo I managed to take of a bolide fireball meteor in northern Idaho a couple months ago:

Welcome to the forum Eric,
nice shot. Was that with the 10-22 that you mentioned in the other thread?

Ben, those shots are awesome! I really like the second one with the glowing smoke cloud.

Welcome Eric. That's a great way to make an entrance. I look forward to you sharing more pictures here.
Here's one from Sunday. I was at Rogie falls, where there's a wibbly wobbly suspension footbridge over the river. It's a great viewpoint for the waterfall but not ideal for long exposure shots when some excitable children insist on jumping up and down for fun.

The river is called the Black Water due to the peaty soils further upstream.
