I have never really tried shooting birds before since my longest lens was a 105. Just received my Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD today. After about 20 shots I got one.


I think I am going to like this lens.

Do you know if you shoot your 500mm with a tripod, you can easily change you camera direction from landscape to portrait or any other angle by loosen your tripod ring, try that, Bob.

Yes, I knew that and often use it---I even had some of the dove in landscape, but I really liked the lighting on this shot even though the comp was lacking---it was also a full frame shot, so no room to crop and adjust.

Bob, sorry for the confusing post and late response( I missed it), my brain was not working properly I guess[:$]

I am very impressed with the noiselevels in
this shot. It was uncroped,brightly exposed andno deep shadows which
all adds up to a usable shotevenat 12,800.

John, with only the 60D, manual focus lens and bad lighting condition(ISO 12800), we certainly see your skills.[][Y]

Thanks JJ ... have had some interesting birds lately .... some are just passing through on their way back north like these Rose Breasted Grosbeaks .... I get them the first week in May almost every year.
