Vern...I love the detail you are getting with your Bluebird images and the blue feathers seem to have an iridescence to them.

Here's the Hairy Woodpecker I spoke of yesterday

One of my primary "nemesis birds" came to my perches today.....I have been trying to get this to happen for at least 4 years! Unless you are familiar with this species the image may not fully do it justice because of it's overall size. This is a pretty big bird....on the order 14 to 16 inches tall and a wing span of close to 2 feet. They are very impressive. When they fly close to you the wing beats are very loud. I don't know why it finally happened but he came right in today when I played a call on my ipod. I have done this hundreds of times before and he has flown past at close range and today he finally decided to land in my set up. Hope you enjoy looking, it was a big thrill for me today

That is one beautiful bird!!! Glad you didn't have your lens set to 700mm or you might have only had a portrait. :-) Congratulations on the bird!

Congratulations Joel... those birds do tend to be very skitish.

Oh man. I get excited seeing the Pileated Woodpeckers from 100 feet away with my binocs. I can't image how I would feel if one landed on my perch with my camera at the ready. Awesome.

these are the best shots i was able to get . it seems the focus isnt right if i try for anything far away. these were quite close at about 20 feet and i think the focus is as sharp as i can get with what i have.
    shot with a t4i 75-300 III lense. 1/320 f9 iso 200 and 250mm
