This is the thread to which Bill was referring. It contains lots of good tips on how to shoot eagles, a lot of which you can apply to other wildlife. Of course, you won't see many eagles on safari, unless you get lucky...

Rick, to save you asking, this was 46.4m away, cropped to 16% of the frame. Even a 500mm lens with a 1.4x extender would only fill half the frame.
