I like the avatar feature, but it would be good is the top section could be restored to a horizontal orientation, rather than the vertical list of links that leaves a very large blank patch to the right of the list (maybe I'm the only one seeing this?).

I agree, Now there is this big blank white area at the top of the screen which is wasted space. Definitely preferred it the other way.

I would like to see the avatar a little larger, most forums allow on average 80x80

Nice feature, gives everyone a "face".. but I completely agree. Too small. Wouldn't even need to be much bigger. Like the avatars on DA. Not too big from a developer, site admin point of view, but large enough to be worthwhile.
