Would be a smart move IMO. I would buy one, maybe two.... one for the wife.

Yeah for sure! I just upgrade my EF 50mm f/1.8 II to a 50mm f/1.4 USM and gave her the old one... I'd buy her an EF-S 35 f/1.8... not terribly big difference and maybe both wouldn't be the best move since it's just a little focal length difference, but the 35 would be more all-around usable than the 50.... I think the 50 on a 1.6x crop is more of a portrait lens in my opinion.

Also agree. An EF-S 35mm f/1.8 - if it has USM, count me in. Else, I'll pass (and hold out for aEF 35mm f/1.4 L II USM!).

If they copy Nikon, then it will. The Nikon 35mm f/1.8 has their best autofocus motor with Full Time Manual. It also has rounded aperture blades, an aspheric element, a good manual focus ring, and good optical performance (some ways better than the Canon 50mm f/1.8 and other ways slightly worse). All for a very low price. Personally, I'd buy it even for $300.

So you think we'll soon get a canon version of Nikon's 14-24 f/2.8? I would sort of like one.

    CanonRumors does.

    *UPDATE*
I addressed Tilt-Shift, Macro and Teleconverters, I didn’t copy/paste that stuff over. Sorry about that.

Be sure to scroll down for part 1
I think there are far more people eager to see what lenses Canon has coming down the pipeline.I know I am.

I think this is going to be the year of the lens from Canon. I truly expect a lot of upgrades and a couple of new lenses.

    Without further ado…….

I could see these three announced February 9, 2010.

    14-24 f/2.8L
    - An ultra wide for full frame that finally makes Canon users happy.

    24-70 f/2.8L IS
    - Upgraded coating, build and the much desired image stabilization. I personally think Nikon royally dropped the ball not VRing their 24-70.

    70-200 f/2.8L IS II
    - The current model is very good, but I wouldn’t call it great (don’t flame me too hard for saying that, I do own one) . The lens will get an upgraded IS and better optical performance, especially at 200mm. Lighter weight would be a welcomed bonus.

I do -- although it might come as a slower f/4 and/or a wider 12mm. At f/4 it might complete the 24-105 and 70-200 f/4 series that Canon has going.

Either way, I would love one as well.

I might actually like that better. It doesn't have to be fast to please me, just sharp and wide.
