And, a couple of mine. The first is an HDR of an old T-28C.

And this one is from an airplane as opposed to of one.

Re: Post your favorite Airplane shots
And now to throw a technical question at all of you. As I mentioned, I want to go to Oshkosh this summer to the airshow there. I don't know what conditions will be as in distance etc. I currently don't own anything longer than 150mm, so I am looking to use it as an excuse for glass. the 100-400L is a little pricey, but I might be able to stretch to it, other wise Sigma has 150-500, 100-300 f/4, 120-400. The 1-300 doesn't have IS/OS. So, I have a set of questions:
1)what focal lengths do you find yourselves using? maxxed out to 400, or closer in?
2) do you sit at wide open, or tend to stop down a little?
3) Is IS a big factor in your shooting?
Thanks guys

Re: Post your favorite Airplane shots
I do not shoot at airshows but I have heard that 400mm is often too close. I think the Canon 70-200 IS f/4 would be a nice choice. If not, the 100-400 is a nice choice too. IS is HUGE for airshows, especially Mode 2 (panning mode). I wouldn't consider a non-IS lens.

I use the 100-400. It feels like it was designed with air shows in mind with push pull zoom. 70-200 is too short in my opinion especially for jets.
I use the whole zoom range and I usually shoot in Tv mode at 1/500. Prop planes, If I remember, I try to switch to about 1/125 or 1/250 with the IS in mode 2. Jets I turn IS off.

Re: Post your favorite Airplane shots
This is my small contribution. Both taken with Canon XS (now upgraded to 40D) and 75-300mm at local airshow.
