I'm a fan of the 24-105, It's on my camera most the time.
For walking around (outside) with one lens and what I've been taking pictures of I never miss that 15-23 range. I find most my shots are at the 105 end.
I had a 55-250 and liked the range, but I honestly prefer the pictures I take with the 105. (even if I have to crop them to get the range)
Once I got the 24-105 my 18-55 never gets used and 55-250 seldom got used. (I sold the 55-250 Friday)
Inside without flash is where the slightly faster and 15-23 range might be missed..
I've rented the 100-400 a couple times- I really like using it, I don't mind the push pull zoom at all, also it shares filter size (77mm) with the 24-105.

No Refund for me this year- would like to replace the 55-250 range with L series - 70-200 or 70-300 (because it's relatively compact) or maybe the 100-400.
But just got new 7D and used 17-55 for Christmas so... probably not in the near future... I'll rent them weekends I know they will get used.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm pretty much decided on the 24-105L now. I got to play with both the 15-85 and the 24-105 today at a Best Buy. I love both, But I think I like the L a bit more, mostly because of the long end. I like the heft and feel of it as well compared to the 15-85.
Now, do I go for the 24-105L, or the 100-400L...
I think I shall decide that on Thursday once I get some hands on time with the 100-400L.
