Backup Camera to 5d MkII - 7d, 50d or 550d ?

On balance I have decided to purchase a new 50d. The cost to rent a 5D2 body for the period is 60% of the price to purchase the 50d

Ouch, in that case, considering all the money you would have spend, the 50D won't let you down. I've had the 50D and I think it's a great camera and it offers good capabilties. One tip though: if you're used to making lots of ultra-wide shots with your 16-35...you might be surprised to find out how un-ultra-wide it is on a 50D. You would notice it in the Alps for instance and you might want to think about that. Or start practicing panorama's []

Yes a little change in approach (or stand further back []) - I've just seen that the weather isn't great at the moment with lots of low lying cloud, so maybe not too many opportuntiies for the "big" pictures as in the past but still lots of opportunty to have a play with the 50d
