My wife's advice was if you are going to buy it later, you might as well buy it now. I called that permission and who am I to argue.

You read everyone's progression through lenses, so I figured I would try and skip at least a step and get what will be a better long term purchase. And if I was going to make the move and switch from the T3i to 60D, doing it when I could still return it made sense and I could get the rebates on the two. So maybe it was just a sign.
