Why do you say that? f/10 allowed you to use a pretty slow shutter speed (that provided a nice effect) at your lowest possible ISO setting. Any wider an aperture would have caused you to have to use a faster shutter speed - If this is what you wanted, ignore my post. In my opinion 1/40 sec. works nicely for your shot. Also, f/10 (on the Xsi) shouldn't affect your image quality due to diffraction.
