Good try Americo but its the super-thin DOF that is the trouble for me here - my eye has nothing to hold attention to. Maybe try stopping down a bit?

    Americo,

There are many other interesting things to shoot other then wine bottles and wine bottle corks. Go outside and look for other things to shoot that tell a story. Open up that camera and shoot at f/5.6 to f/11. Shoot some pretty landscapes, capture a cool car, shoot an interesting reflection, look for a beautiful sky or ask some friends to pose for some funny or unique portraits. No more wine bottles please. Stay away from the wine.

DDT, i don't think you stuffed the aperture, i reckon it's spot on. Perfectly focussed head makes it stand out from the blurry body, looks a fair bit more agressive and threatening (now I know how a tiny fruit fly must feel if i saw one)

    .

Here's two i took in the last day or so.

First is some giant (1.5" long) mosquito- or lacewing-looking thing, 7D, 50mm f/1.8 @ f/6.3, 52-37mm stepdown ring and lensbaby +10 macro lens, ISO1600, 1/200s handheld, no cropping. Taken under my very yellow outside lights (which are meant to discourage bugs, they don't work), so lots of PP colour adjustment to get the wall almost white, and too much NR to make it sharp, but still, i love the expression.

    .

Next is a hoverfly, damn it was hard to get a good shot of. 7D, 70-300L with 36mm extension tube @ 300mm, f/6.3, ISO800, 1/640s. They dart around so freakishly fast, and spot you from 3' away, that there's nothing else to do but Manual Focus, high-ish DOF, high shutter speed (so unfortunately high ISO and noise), aim, machine-gun, and pray. 100% crop of the best I managed (needs more NR, but goes too soft with any more)...

My kids pointed this spider out to me a couple of days ago:

If anyone can guess the flower, I'll be impressed []

[Edit: the picture was there when I previewed and gone when I looked at Nates pictures later... I put it back but not sure it will stay. Dunno what I did wrong.]

Hi Guys and Gals, I haven't posted anything lately...here are some images that I've shot in March, man that was the last time I did any serious photography

No fancy macro lens, just the good old 70-200 f/2.8L IS and the 7D

thanks for viewing, comments are always welcome
