    Nice GBH.

I dare not say how hard it's been to get the red-wing blackbird with my setup... [:|]they're all over where I live, but are difficult to approach. Success. I found a spot where I got many good shots today.

    Nice shot James.

I suggest you use a birdfeeder and perch setup; you'll constantly be able to get within 10' of the birds and you won't have the "branch growing out of bird's head" problem.

Backyard setup using a feeder and hide. Canon 40D, 300mm 2.8 + 1.4 TC. This was taken at dusk using a flash which gives the illusion of the background being very dark....I was trying to achieve this intentionally.

Excellent capture there Joel! Was the flash off camera? Did the bird get sunglasses?

Brendan, good pt about the the branch growing out of his head. Such a shame to lose that photo because of that, I took care of the branch in pp and re-uploaded, but in the future I'll try to handle it at capture.

I must say yesterday and today were some of the must fruitful days of shooting I've ever had. The sheer diversity of birds I saw was awesome. I've got material to post for a while...

I wish I had shots of Raptors, but this will do for now []

And this one... looks like a redwing blackbird, but... no redwing. Maybe its a juvy.
