Also the Emperor Penguins but they are hard to find.
The emperors are indeed difficult to reach. Most tourist ships are incapable of getting close to their colonies, which are mostly on thick sea ice.

I didn't see any Adélies in South Georgia, but I did visit a colony of gentoo penguins, which are related. They are quite plucky characters, having to cross a beach full of elephant seals to reach the sea. This one is making it's way past one of the 'sleeping giants'.

Here is one of the less pretty photos from the trip. Northern giant petrels are scavengers, so the carcass of a baby elephant seal attracts a lot of attention.

The tour company I used had two trips that sounded good.

Weddell Sea | Emperor Penguin voyage (only 10 days)

Antarctic Peninsula | Basecamp Plancius (only 12 days)

A ship with a helideck and a helicopter is a good start, but the description reads as though they are not sure of success. You wouldn't want to get stuck would you?

The bird life on South Georgia is not restricted to penguins and petrels. The Sough Georgia Shag is found here.

Antarctic Terns can be seen searching for food near the shore.

Yes I would, so long as they don't bill for spending an extra month on the ice.

Great shot Joel! I haven't been here for a while and my how your shots stick out from the rest!

If I have time this year I know were a bunch (60 to 80) Bald Eagles gather this time of the year, so much to do so little time.

    All the best,
    John.

Thanks John! Would love to see you get some images of those Eagles, one of my favorite birds and one that I have yet to image in the wild.
