It sounds like a lot of effort for very little visible effect... and you'd be right! But black fur is such a pain to shoot.

Especially right next to white fur, in the bright sun!

60D 135L f/4 1/250 second ISO 100 using LumoPro LP 160 flash off camera and bounced off the ceiling.
