Going through unprocessed photos and I came across a series of this Roseate Spoonbill in flight that I took with Mike (Busted Knuckles) at the Black Point Drive in the Merritt Island NWR last January. This was my favorite

I picked up another 7DII back in November just before heading to Florida hoping I would gain a little reach . I wasn't overly impressed with it , my second 7DII. I did get a few decent shots but every time i used my 5DIII it would lock focus and give me a nice sharp image. Not the case with the 7DII , sharp images were in the 10-15% range . I am pretty sure a lot of soft shots are my fault but definitely not all of them. I bought a few guides and some post processing courses which helped a bit but i still wasnt convinced I would keep the 7DII.
I made a backyard setup for woodpeckers earlier this week and decided to do some testing. I used the 7DII with a 400F5.6L , 1DsIII with 400F5.6L + 1.4xIII to get similar FOV. I took over 200 shots with each camera and was quite surprised by the sharpness of the 7DII. There is definitely more detail in the 7DII images. I guess my old 400 just isnt very good for birds in flight cause on a still subject it proved itself today.

I sold my 7DII and 17-40mm f/4 lens to generate funds to buy a 5D IV ... no regrets. I did get some good images form the 7DII but only in the best conditions. Overall I was not impressed compared to the 1D IV or the 1D X even with the extra "reach" of the crop sensor.
