At 500mm-800mm wide open apertures are really unusable sometimes, and the 300 + 1.4x/2x TC really offer no loss of IQ or usable aperture. And it is Canon's cheapest supertelephoto. Not that it's cheap, though [8o|]
Arthur Morris is amazing. Every time I see his images I think they're awesome and then he points out like 10 technical errors that I never would have seen.
