Brant I like that first one the most... it's a great composition. Was the lighthouse turned on? If so then maybe a longer exposure would have allowed you to catch the quick beam of light as it went by. But it's a great shot and I like the fact that your exposure is just bright enough to not turn the lighthouse into a black silhouette, so that it stands out from the surrounding landscape a bit more.

I have found that unless the light rotates and has a Fresnel lens in it, you do not get a nice beam of light that shows up. Many of the lights that had Fresnel lights in them have been replaced because they are too expensive to repair. They replace them with strobes or solid lights just for show. You can get a nice star burst, but they really lack any sign of light radiating outward. Even the newer rotating lights do not seem to provide much of a beam of light radiating outward. At least that has been my observations so far. The light in this one seems a bit small to have a Fresnel lens in it (my guess). I am sure there are some "spot light" types that rotate that would show a beam, but I have not seen any of those myself.

I try to find lights that still have there Fresnel light for night shots, but they are getting harder to find. Sadly, my favorite (and close to home) Fresnel light just failed, and the year before they sold it to a private company to maintain. The cost was to high to warrant the repair so they have replaced it with a strobe. I was bummed.

A few pictures from a place not far from home. All were taken in a 50 meters radius.

Thanks all for the nice comments, and sorry for the late answer, I've been busy this week.

Who knows, maybe one day I will try one there. I still have to learn a bit about the technical aspects though.
