This is the time of year when the larches turn gold and begin to lose their needles. Larch trees are generally found at high elevations (over 2000 metres). Today we hiked 22 km through scenery like this, near Lake Louise Alberta.

Kind of biffed this one. But it's the best from that night. Shutter speed was way too long.. too much movement in the stars.

Denise....I'm taking an ornithology class with Mass Audubon and just learned yesterday that your male Cardinal pic isn't molting. The real cause is feather lice.

Cardinals and Blue Jays are the most susceptible to these parasites in my area.

The good news; the lice really do no harm to the host and the feathers grow back.

I love scrolling through this thread.....

Jon--keep them coming. Great fall scenes and they also remind me of where I grew up......

Jim---I saw pictures of the memorial for the first time during the 9/11 anniversery....well done on capturing peaceful feeling the park was meant to inspire.

    Chris---yet another good one.....

Rocco---I am with Gian...I like the silhouette of the pines against the night sky...

Gian....amazing photo. I absolutely love the concept, and the execution is perfect. Very well done...
