TakahiroW4047 - Impressive dynamic range. Did you process separately for the highlights and shadows?

@w349 - This is a single image shot : ) The way the sun is angled, the subjects and the tree lines behind them are both partially "shadowed". So apart from minor luminance adjustments in the "green" and "yellow" range, I was able to keep the blowouts to a minimum!

Welcome back, Americo. IMO, you still need to work on focus - in the shot above, the region of critical focus is on the her hair on the other side of her face. Ideally, you want the eyes in focus if nothing else. In this case, the makeup applicator would also work as a focal point. A few strands of hair in the background just doesn't work as a focal point, for me.

Here is one from a shoot I did last night. She is going to be a senior in high school. I'm starting to use my 50mm f/1.8 for almost all of my portraits and now I really want the 50mm f/1.2! ( but I think I will have to settle with the 1.4 )


T2i + 50mm f/1.8


f/2.8 - ISO 100 - 1/500


Natural light, I used a shoot through umbrella as a diffuser. And now that I think about it, I also used a reflector in this shot.

AnGelo, I'm not a strobist so I'm out of my depth here. But I'm guessing 3 maybe four lights. My reasons would be the catch lights in the eyes, the exposure on the skin and the highlights in the hair (and the background). Yet all this could possibly be done with one cleverly reflected light - I think.
