Migratory bird day banding was fun. Temperatures here in Missouri are out of control, so it was pretty much the worst showing in terms of total numbers ever. Here's a few pics from the event. The one Goldfinch picture isn't very good, but I only post it b/c I liked his crazy damaged and regrown beak.

Nice shots! What's that old saying about a bird in the hand?

    Good work

After today I would change the saying to "a bird in hand equals poop on hand".

That bluebird is sharp. I would never guess that you had a teleconverter on the lens. Here's another Thrasher pic that I composed with the hand out of the frame.

    Female Bluebird

    1D MKIV
    500mm + 2X TC III
    ISO 1600
    f/8
    1/250

This is a full frame shot at 1000mm. The original before resizing is about 24 inches wide!

I performed an AF microadjustment by trial and error on this lens with the 2X converter and it seems very good

@dsiegel - Your shots are really sharp! Very nicely done!

Well, it stopped raining for awhile today but still drab and gloomy but at least I got out in the backyard to take a few shots!

Thanks Denise...I really like the plump female House Finch. What's the effect you used on the Chipping Sparrow? I don't usually like effects, but for some reason I really like that one.

Thanks! There are actually two textures on that one. The raised effect texture is from Shadow House Creations.

This week is typically one of the best times of the year here in south central Kentucky for birding and bird photography ... here is a just a fraction of what I saw in about 2 hours Sunday morning :
