just about to buy one, wondering if anyone has had any problems with them?

None. Love mine.
I've heard a few people complaining about how awesome they are [:P]. I might be prepared to get some "what paper do you work for?" questions.
I say go for it. I would if I had a job... eh... school.
Dave.

<h3>It's a terrible lens. Just read about all the problems online. It's a dust-pump. It's not sharp. The bokeh is really bad. </h3>
<h3>Don't buy it!</h3>
Oh, wait, you mean that everything on the internet isn't true? That might explain why I really like myEF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6<span style="color: red;"]LIS! It's a great lens, it's usually on my 7D when I go out to shoot birds or wildlife (unless it's raining, in which case I use theEF 70-200mm f/2.8<span style="color: red;"]LIS II with anEF 1.4x II Extender). Here are a few samples with the 100-400mm:

Watch out at military places where they might notice you as an enemy with an anti-tank weapon...you never know what they might do to you []
I think it's an excellent generallens forall distant applications...bird, wildlife, airshow, zoo and outdoor sports.
But you don't have one, do you Nate? []
