2022 - Image of the Week #45

Welcome to TDP forum's "Image of the Week" competition. Each week photographers may submit their images for the title of "Image of the Week." Weekly winners will then compete on a monthly, quarterly, and in our annual poll for the title of "TDP Forum Image of the Year."

• Week 45 entry period will be from Monday, October 31st through/including Sunday November 6th.
• Please provide a title for your image.
• This is an open competition for landscape, portrait, architectural, macro, or any other appropriate photographic style.
• Images should have been either recently taken or processed.
• You may make two entries per week. If the total number of entries exceeds 10, unless otherwise specified, the first entry will be added to the poll.
• The weekly poll will be open for 3 days.

Finally got my camera out for my grandson. We watch him everyday, but it has been much easier to just grab the phone. But I realize how much better my canon equipment works to get a good focus.

Nothing great, but pure gold to me.

The picture posted very soft. Any tips on how to post and not loose all definition? I used to post from Flickr and they posted sharp, but I do not want to post this on Flickr. So a little education would be appreciated.

Problem resolved. Was hoping not to use flickr, but that seems like the best option at this point.

i've only used Flickr and imgur to post my shots here but i believe you can post it on flickr as a private image where others are unable to view it and still post it with bbc code like normal

First off, great picture.

As for the softness, could be a number of things as I am not exactly sure how you posted. But, the forum allows 1000 pixels wide. Anything beyond that, it will compress the image. So, my current guess is that the image you tried to upload was >1000 pixel wide, and the softness you are seeing is compression artifacts from the forum software.

With flickr, this isn't an issue as you can pick your output file size. I go no larger than 1600 pixels wide. When I have in the past, I do notice some softness.

So, maybe you could try saving this as 800 to 1000 pixels wide and repost to see if it is better.

Unfortunately, the next option is the fact that the forum has a size limit for uploaded photos. I recall it being something like 196 KB. So, saving a file to fit that file size may also be causing softness. Which is another reason to have your final output be as small as possible.

Thanks guys. Wasn't sure I remembered how to post from Flickr, but it seemed to have worked. The softness that remains is on me... I was hoping no one could resist a cute kid to cover up for the lack of focus.

Here is a second one. Better focus on the eyes.
Little guy is always on the run. I now have a better understanding of how difficult it must be for people to get active dogs in focus... they are much faster.

you have a handsome grandson there Pat! great shots of him too i checked your flickr and they are indeed private as i could not see them there.
