A Borrowed Lens :)

I am currently borrowing a lens from a friend. It is the Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM lens. So far I have loved it and am almost convinced that I should buy that lens of its sibling the 100mm lens. Anyway here are some shots that I have taken with it. Feel free to comment or critique as you like. I am just putting them up for your enjoyment.

rocking pictures. don't forget to consider the 100mm macro version. loss of 2/3 an fstop but 1x capability!

I find the 100mm macro to be a little more than I could swallow but it might some day enter my arsenal. I would have to look seriously at the Sigma 150mm lens before I bought the 100mm macro.

I guess in the grand scheme of things it is not. But you are talking to a college student (Flaming) and a seminary student (me) here! $400 is a semester's worth of books!

Yeah, money is a small issue and lack of other lenses is also a small issue. Some day I might get around to spending more money on those. I really am impressed with this lens though! I would recommend it to anyone (especially if they don't already cover that focal length with the kit lens they have.)

Hi, I find that the EF 50 f/1.8 II can produce similar image quality and costs about a quarter of the EF 85, however the focal length is of course quite different, and the build quality etc. much lower.


My largest problem with the EF 50 however is auto-focus, with the EF 85 most photos are on focus, with the EF 50 I have to throw out about two thirds, and only abouth a tenth of all pictures are _really_ sharp. Might be better using manual focus?


That said, I have the EF 85 f/1.8 USM too, and am really happy with it...

I read that as "flaming seminary student" and immediately thought he was Catholic...I need to start reading more closely.

Unfortunantly I had to return this lens, but it has made me realize how powerful it is especially with the bokeh. I have the 24-85mm F/3.5-4.5 and it is incredible how much less blurr I can produce. Also the lens is slower with the autofocus and does not put up near the sharpness. Well I guess I will have to save up before I really get any lens. SIGH!

Just skip books for a semester or two []
