Pic of daughters high school play - 5dIII noise test

My daughter was the art director of the play so no pics of her yet.

I am thinking the noise level is very acceptable, etc. Interested in others thoughts?

    ISO 1600, 2.8 70-200 at 200 - I think the shutter was 160?

I wouldn't be afraid of even higher ISO on a 5D3. ISO 1600 is acceptable on my 7D, and quite good on the 1Ds2. I get significantly less noise using ACR / Elements 10 than with DPP, so if you're using DPP (as flickr suggests you are) you might consider a switch.

This shot is ISO 12800 on the 1D X. Anecdotal reports and Bryan's noise comparison suggest that the 1D X may have close to a 1-stop advantage over the 5DIII at high ISO settings, but I'd say you could push up to ISO 6400.

Agree that DPP isn't the best at handling noise - I find DxO Optics Pro to do a much better job of NR with detail retention, and also to have the best available lens corrections. 1D X support from DxO is coming this month.

I think the noise looks very acceptable to me, and your settings look good too!

However, the image could benefit from some mild noise reduction software.

Thanks - was wanting to double check my look at it.

CS6 noise reduction better/worse than DPP. I have that on the machine as well. I usually don't go to CS6 unless I am going to do significant fiddling

I have LR 4.1 and it does much better than DPP for noise. I would think CS6 would do better as well.

Sorry all, my above comment was in reference to the loads of spam previously above my post which has obviously been deleted.

Sincerest apologies if it seemed like it was in reference to the original thread.
