Uploading images to 'my file' on this site

most of my images are 2.5-5.0 mb and each time it tells me the file is too large. What is the maximum size and how can i adjust my picture size (and will this reduce quality)?

    Thanks a lot!

Yeah you should only consume 180 - 400kb or so,.. and at 800 pixels wide, modest compression this should be cake. Most of us have photoshop or gimp or similar to handle resizing and re-sharpening. Always save as...

I think the maximum for your file storage is 5mb. And, as the previous poster said, the width of the forum threads is 800 pixels, so uploading a picture any larger than that would be useless. Try Faststone's Photo Resizer for a easy and fast way to resize your images. I use it all the time.

I just use Canon's DPP software: Here are the steps:

    1. Select your photo

    2. Go to File menu and select "Convert and Save" (if you have several files, you can do the same thing in "Batch Process"

    3. Set Image quality 7-10

    4. Set output resolution to 72

5."Resize" thelongest edge of the photo to 800 pixels (make sure aspect ratio is locked)

6.Rename, save as Jpegto a convenient location (I keep a folder just for web conversions).

The nice thing about DPP is that the convert and save function remembers the previous settings, so if you are doing several pics, all you have to do is rename the file in the "convert and save" dialog box.

This should give you files in the 300-600 Kbyte range. Once you do it a couple of times, this is a very quick method.

    Hope this helps---

I use Irfanview to alter sizes of shots. Very easy to use, and it has many plug-inns for various standards. Regards Wally.
