    Need opinions

I'm interested in kids sports/action photography. I've been using an XSi but find that I would like to have a bit faster and better auto focusing body. I've just been offered a 1D MkII with a newly replaced shutter for $800. Is this a good investment, or should I keep saving for something newer?

Let me preface this by saying I've never owned a 1-series body so I cannot attest to its capabilities. However, a used 1D Mark II in good condition sells for about $1200-$1300 USD in the retail market.

if i was you i would snatch that out of his hand for that money ..... i have a 1d mark ii and its one of the best cameras ive ever used so dont hesitate

just be warned it takes some getting used to cause of its waight and complexity and depending on what lenses you have you mite need new ones ( it cant take EF-S lenses ) .... i would get it with a 70-200 F4 or 2.8 depending on budget.

Grab it, I use the 1D II for all my sports work, and I cover over 100 events a year. 800 is a steal for the body, and with a new shutter as well.

FYI my shutter is going on 180K frames and still going strong *knocks on wood*

Thanks gang! I did go ahead and purchase this and am slogging through the manual to figure out how to work it. Soccer picks back up this weekend, I hope to have a few good shots to share.

Ehcalum do you have a site with some sample images?

    www.wrenchedphotography.com

www.triduo.com, any event with Andy or Allen as photographer (We both use a 1D Mk II)

www.flickr.com/ehcalum - most photos after mid 2009, recent photos except Maine.

Its really not that hard of a camera to use. I love using back button focus myself. For the best Out of Camera images, you will want to set your image parameters to +3 sharpness +2 contrast.

Canon NP-E3 batteries new are $$$$ and really don't last that long. You can get a 3rd party for less and double the milliampre hours.
