    Preventing lens creep

I was using the video function with my camera, and a 24-105 L. The camera was mounted in such a way that the lens was pointing nearly perpendicular to the floor (I was videoing a baby).

The lens naturally wants to slip to the 105 mm position, when it is nearly vertical. I had to hold the zoom ring, which limited my ability to get the baby animated.

Any suggestions on how to prevent the lens creep?

In truth, you only need 2 things in life: WD40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD40. If it does move and shouldn't, use duct tape. []

I've also read about using a wide rubber band.

Just don't buy a 500mm prime like Nate - unless you want to video the pores or your baby's skin. []

Use some Gaffer Cloth Tape . It won't leave residue on your lens the way duct or other tapes will.

Let's see.....almost $1700 for the 24 mm prime, or about 5 bucks for the gaffer tape.

    Mark's suggestion wins, hands down!
