Religious art from a broken window

I went to church recently, and noticed that one of the windows was
shattered -- most likely due to a rock getting kicked up by a lawn
mower. These were taken from outside looking in during the rehearsal before a Thursday night worship service, and after the service.

This did provide an opportunity to make some interesting pictures by playing with focus on and through the window.

    Hi jfritz,

I really like the 1st shot, it's very cool!

Regarding the 1st shot, I was wondering what you think of the idea of cropping out the very broken glass on the right side of the frame (the part of the window that you can't see through), since I don't think it adds to the shot and I think it may take away from it a little bit. So, basically try to crop up to the edge of the hole, so you can still see through the entire hole though.

Just curious how it would look.

Personally I like the first lensbaby shot (#3), perfect shot for the 'sharpness' assignment i reckon.

Nice to see I'm not the only one with a lensbaby around here...

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for the feedback. Here is the cropped image. I left a little of the window frame so that I could the entire hole in the picture.

Good suggestion, I think it works better this way.

Nice effect. Although I would get ride of the actual hole in the window - my eye is drawn to the hold first.

I like the cropped one as it gives a nice perspective but again I would like it with out the actual hole but leave the priest (the guy in white) in frame.

It would have been interesting to maybe center the hole on the cross members of the cross with the fracture line radiating out to the pew with people while keeping the rule of thirds in place.

    Great use of an opportunity!
