FILL FLASH..... how to do it right....

trying to learn how to properly do fill flash... it

Generally speaking you meter for the background and "fill" in the shadows on faces like in an outdoor portrait at high noon. ETTL does a pretty good job with this but if you have time setting your flash manually will give you more consistant results.

Often times I'll dial in -1 or -2 flash exposure compensation if I don't want to completely fill in the shadows (just lift them a little).

In ETTL I do the same, dial in -1 or -2 flash exposure compensation. Most of the time I am in manual and meter with a Sekonic L-358 Flash Master Meter. It allows me to meter the ambient and flash.
