    EF 300 2.8 update?

Some of the rumor sites are now saying the EF 300 2.8 IS will be updated in the first quarter. What sort of changes would you expect to be had?

I suspect that all popular lenses will be updated to the new glass or coating that the new 24mm is using.

I would expect the 300 f4 would get the upgrade before one of the most sought after lenses does. If I couldguess a couple reasons, it would be to make the IS cheaper, and 4 stop capable. Add on the new lens coating and there's a new lens, that I really want, but sadly can't afford.

What Canon rumors is reporting here:

is "better optical quality" and (as expected) better IS. Is the original weather-sealed? If it's not, they will probably weather-seal it too.

I would expect better IS (4-stop vs. 2-stop), lighter weight and a lower price.

Daft question, but why would you expect a lower price? Don't get me wrong, this is one lens that I am seriously looking at, so an update would be welcomed.

But why would they update it anyway, by all accounts it is one of Canon's best lenses in terms of IQ, focus speed etc, so why do they need to change it? Presumably it sells in the quantities that they expect?

And the current climate is not exactly conducive for the current user base to feel the need to upgrade.
