Have you guys heard of Vivian Maier??

Just came across this video on another site. How freaking cool is this?! A little more searching found her photos for me. Her work is incredible!

It reminds me of a google+ hangout I was watching. There was a street photographer on there who made the point that even if you street photos don't hold a lot of weight right now, 20+ years down the road it very well could. I LOVE that her photos tell a very good story about New York around that time.

Yep, gritty, grainy glimpses of life. A real treasure chest.

But.. isn't Chicago just a subdivision of New York?

I think that her work may end up going the same way as Disfarmer, hyped up so that people will pay thousands for originals. That way a few people will make a lot of money.
But people tell me I'm cynical.

    Chicago - 2nd city or 2nd suburb...

Yea, some might be getting some hype for a few $$. I am glad to get to see the images I have. There is indeed something about a B&W that just speaks differently than color exposures.

It also reminds me that art is all around us all the time if we just take that 1/125th of second to notice it.

If we're lucky enough to live in one of the better subdivisions of New York, then yes.
