    Canon 24-105 "L" lens

I just got this lens this week and noticed that the "Whites" tend to be a little over exposed. This is the only lens that I noticed that does this. Is this normal? Or do I have a bad copy! Pictures do come out sharp though. It's just that the "whites' are just a little too much for my liking. I'm using it on an XSi body. I also have a 70-200 "IS" f2.8 and this lens has no problems that I'm describing.

I have two copies of this lense and have not seen any exposure issues with either copies on either my XTi or 5D.

Do you have a gray card you could do some exposure testing on?

That photo definitely has some clipped highlights.

The only possible issue that I can think of is that one of your lenses has a significant aperture activation variance. It could also combine with a 1/3 stop difference in lens transmissivity (vs. the kit lens, for example).

However, the most likely explanation is that your lens has a PEBCAP error. To diagnose this type of error, take two identical photos: one with the 24-105 and one with your other lens.
    • Same tripod position
    • Same lighting (i.e. no clouds moving around, etc.)
    • Same focal length
    • Same f-number
    • Same exposure duration
    • Same ISO
    • Same picture profile
    • Automatic Lighting optimizer disabled
    • Automatic Vignetting correction disabled.

    Then post the photos.

If indeed there is an error, can Canon correct this or should I return this lens for a new one?

Would a "UV" haze filter cause problems like this? I'm using a Canon Haze filter on this lens.

If it's a PEBCAP error as Daniel is suggesting, Canon won't do anything (PEBCAP errors are not covered by warranty). Post the photos as suggested, and it can probably be verified if there is a problem with the lens.

    What is a "PEBCAP" error?
