    300mm f/2.8L or 200mm f/2L for Friday night football

    Hello All,

Need some of your expert opinions once again. I shoot LOts of live action photography and I currently have the 135mm f/2L and the 70-200mm f/2.8L. I have full access to the sidelines so my questions is.....given what I have already....which is best for "Friday Night Lights"....the 200 f/2L (Great speed but I have this focal length already) or 300 f/2.8L (gives me a tighter shot)?

Thanx in advance for your opinion!

    Jeff

I vote 300mm f/2.8, I've used this and the 70-200mm f/2.8 for football, I often myself wanting more with than 200mm, If you're satisfied with 200mm than I would go with the f/2, but if its not enough, the 300mm f/2.8 is a fantastic lens.

I'd go with the 200mm f/2. It's got the faster apeture that you will use.

I suggest choosing based on the angle of view that you want. If 200 is long enough for most of the shots you want on your 7D, go for the 200mm f/2. If it isn't the 300mm f/2.8 will be a better choice. Of course, you can put a 1.4X on the 200mm and get a 280mm f/2.8, but I wouldn't suggest relying on that as a matter of course for sports.

I've used both lenses with my 7D and love them! The 200mm f/2 I actually used at a football game (Hawaii Warriors vs Wisconsin Badgers) and found it to work just fine by itself and for a little while I put the 1.4x converter on it. I think that's the one to go with as it gives you more options, and allows you to be zoomed out a little more. You can always crop... especially with 18MP!
