Bindi my loveable whippet started barking the other night and this is what I found in the tree just near the back door, a possum.

Andthis is Bindi that night, she is so sweet and doesn't want to catch the possum, but doesn't like them running around in the trees at night.

Nice shots... what you call a possum down there sure looks a lot less creepy than what we call a possum here. Ours look like giant rats with a bare tail.

Ha...I was thinking the same thing. Nice shots Steve. My pug barks at horses...on tv....she hates them.

Jonathan... great shots. The nutcracker on the mirror, unique photo....and seems very seasonably appropriate.

    Wally...very nice portrait......

@ Jonathan - Perfect timing on two fantastic shots!
@ Wally - Wonderful portrait! Perfect composition, I love the framing!
@ Steve - Nice photos! I am always telling my dogs "QUIET" and never looking to see what they are barking at ...I figure it is just the wind or something! My neighbor saw a possum running up my driveway the other night. Maybe I should go investigate once in awhile! NAH ...I think I'd scream if I saw one of these! Funny thing is, most people would go investigate with a club or something ...we go with our cameras in hand ...LOL!

Pat, I think you and others are referring to the opossum. The term 'possum' is commonly but incorrectly used when referring to the opossum. Both are marsupials, but possums are only found in the eastern hemisphere. I do agree that possums are the more photogenic of the two - nice shot Steve.

Denise, those are some great action shots of Brody. I'm glad that Sammy can receive his treatment now.

Everyone around here just refers to them as possums, and usually even spell it wrong too, but you are correct of coarse - my bad.

Opossums are still ugly, and possums are much cuter.

Took a trip to Smoky mountains national park a few days ago and had some excellent luck with wildlife. The best of which being the elk, its mating season so it made for some great photos. Here's a few of my favorites.

    all with 50d and 100-400mm
