i was out driving looking for something to test my new 100-400 lens on and saw this guy in a tree. i thought it was a snowy owl at fist but the head looks wrong for that. pics arent very good cause he was almost 1/4 mile away and he left when he saw me get out of the truck. he looked a little bigger than a red tailed hawk.

I think that is a solid guess. leukistic raptor of some sort at least. Based on size and location I would also agree it is probably a red tail. Pretty great find. If it was me I would have tried to follow it and photograph it as long as possible.Originally Posted by dsiegel5151

White phase red tail hawk - cool. I a pic of a white phase sparrow (hangs out at the local starbucks) somehow not quite as cool as the hawk.
Now that I googled leucistic.... - the sparrow seems to fit the description, learning stuff here not other than photo. Still cool
