Hey guys,
I want to choose a relatively wide-zoom for my Canon 7D.
I was thinking between the EF-S 17-55 F/2.8 USM IS to the EF 24-70 F/2.8L USM
I have read the reviews here onwww.The-Digital-Picture.com Bryan praises the EF-S 17-55 as being an excellent very sharp lens which the author says have out performed many L series zoom lenses.
However the site's ISO 12233 Chart 100% crops show this lens to be a far cry from being sharp. Compared to the EF 24-70 the EF-S 17-55 looks dull, definintely not as sharp.
Check this out:
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?CameraComp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp= 0&Lens=398&Camera=474&Sample=0&FLI =0&API=0&LensComp=101
It shows the 17-55 crop and when you mouse over the image you'll get the 24-70 crop.
This shows the 24-70 to be much sharper and contradicts what the reviewer wrote about the lens. So I am totaly confused. It seems the review contradicts the ISO 12233 Crops.
If I had a full frame, the 24-70 would have been ideal. But since I have the 7D cropped 1.6x sensor it acts like 38-112 (35mm equivalent). Which is not that wide at all. So that brought me to the decision to get the EF-S 17-55 which would be like 27-88mm (on 7D) which is an excellent range. But range aside, if the 24-70 is so much sharper than the EF-S 17-55 plus an L series (althogh the EF-S 17-55 is pretty much like L series).
So money aside, which would you get ? Taking into consideration focal range and performance.
Would greatly ppreciate some educated replies by you guys. Need to make a choice in the next 48 hours cause have an option to buy cheaper overseas.
Thanks
