Post Processing Software Suggestions

As some of you know, I am new to dslr photography. I am quickly learning my camera and the capabilities I have. Right now, I struggle most with post processing. I am using DPP and occasionally Elements 6, which I got for free. I really have no clue what I am doing.


I intend to purchase Elements 8, I am not a pro and can't justify CS5. In a previous post, a book by Scott Kelby, The Photoshop Elements 8 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices that
Matter), was recommended (by Alan) as a way for me to learn what and how I need to be doing.


Does anyone second this book or have any other suggestions? Also, are there any online or hard copy tutorials for using DPP?

You should also have a software instruction CD. I will say that when you read it there are times that I think it was written by a lawyer being advised by a banker and both are still using the Kodak Brownie grandpa gave them. Gotta check out that video.

Scott Kelby is another I find to be excellent, in particular his North American Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) which is a membership only. http://www.photoshopuser.com/


I'm not familar w/the book you mentioned, but if it's similar to his publications, I'd recommend purchasing it.

No, I don't have any experience with Lightroom. I use DIM 4.0 by Alan Light to download the photos from my memory card, it also organizes them and renames them. Then I use DPP and on rare occasion I use Elements 6. That's it.

I would give it shot. It is relly quick simple to start with but then also allows for much more detailed post processing. I have found it better that DPP for the most part.
