    Lens options

I have have a canon 70d and looking for the best cheapest long zoom I can get. Looking for 400mm and up. I found a 600mm I think awhile back from Tamron maybe? Might of been white but it was less then 1000 bucks but can't remember anymore lol... My memory isn't really that good lol. Wanting to take photos of animals, aircraft, moon and stiff like that

    Welcome to the Forums!

Just a few years ago, nothing fit the description above, now, there are some surprisingly good options, including:

    1. Sigma 150-600 C. In the $1,200-$1,300 range.
    2. Tamron 150-600 V1. $1,000
    3. Tamron 150-600 V2. $1,400
    4. Sigma 150-600S. $2,000

Then, if you stop at 400 mm, there is the Canon 400 mm (~$1,200), Canon 100-400L V1 ($1,300) and 100-400 L II, which is over $2k.

I would read Bryan's reviews, but those are the lenses you are likely looking at. My general thoughts are that all four of those lenses are very good, but if you can afford the extra $200, I would probably go with the Sigma 150-600C as Bryan gives it a slight edge at 600 mm. Also, the Sigma has a docking station whereas V1 of the Tamron does not (V2 or G2 does). If you could settle for 400 mm I would look long and hard at the 100-400L V1 or the 400 mm f/5.6. I've owned the 100-400L V1. Very good lens. Surpassed now by V2, which is also much more expensive, but still a very capable lens. You always want more reach, but on crop, 400 mm is a good amount.

I personally own the 150-600S. Great lens. Big and heavy, but using it at f/8 @ 600 mm gives some very nice images:

As already suggested, the Sigma 150-600S is a very good lens and there is a visible difference with the others you mentioned. Especially on a APS-C camera.

If you can spend a bit more and you want something more compact with a monstrous image quality, the 100-400 II (which i own) is exceptional.
