    Canon 6D HDR

    Hi all,

I've just splashed out on a 6D to replace my 650D, and to say I'm impressed is an understatement. One thing I'm stuck on though is HDR. I can use Backlight HDR in SCN mode but can't seem to use it in any other mode.

For example, I went on the instructions in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hsYK0oWXjo and when i try to select Enable HDR in TV, P or AV modes it will simply not let me select it as it's greyed out. I've reset camera settings to default and it still won't allow me. What am I doing wrong? I've got the latest firmware etc

HDR can only be used in jpg--- if you have RAW or RAW/jpg hdr will not work
    few other stipulations... http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/8/030000...s6d-im3-en.pdf

It could be you have single HDR mode enabled- as in one hdr shot then back to normal

I haven't used the in camera HDR much, but making them in Photoshop Elements or Photomatix basic version both work pretty nice.

    Best of luck

That's really odd. I tested and you're 100% correct. I know HDR will always output to a JPG, so I had RAW/JPG set as my output. However when using HDR in SCN mode I can have RAW/JPG selected and it works fine, however for the other modes I need to turn off all RAW first, it won't even work with RAW/JPG so I need to remember to switch back after each HDR shot?

That's a really weird way of doing things.

that is odd. On my 5DIII, you can use the HDR mode even when shooting RAW. The output is a jpg, but the 3 images leading up to the final product are RAW.

Yeah, I must admit I'm baffled you can do it in SCN mode but when you want to use any other mode you need to manually switch to JPG only. I know what's going to happen, that I'll forget to switch back to RAW and I'll end up with JPG only shots that I can't edit as much.
