Traveling to Glacier National Park... What to Take?

    Hi folks.

I am heading to Glacier shortly and would love some advice from the folks that have been, specifically which lenses I should take. I will be using a 60d and plan to take the following gear:

    Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6
    Canon 24-105mm f4 IS
    Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS II
    Canon 50mm f1.4 (for low light/night sky)

I will also have a sturdy tripod.

My question is in regards to gaining a bit more reach for wildlife. I don't think I saw anything above 105mm in Bryan's gallery. Will I be ok with 200mm on the crop body? Should I consider renting an extender (1.4x or 2x), or the 400mm prime? I'll be on the go with my kids in the park so I'm not really looking to pack or set up anything longer/heavier than the 400mm f5.6.

    Thanks in advance.

    -Patrick

Actually, I think renting a 1.4x extender for use on the 70-200mm lens is a great idea. Otherwise, if you think you'll need even more reach, you might consider renting the 300mm f/4 L IS and the extender.

I have the t3i and recently used the 70-200 w/ the 2xIII and liked the results.

The challenge is the time of day, light, and a f5.6 starting point

Short answer is that I would have something longer than 200 mm as you will likely see wildlife. Glacier isn't like Yellowstone, where the wildlife are everywhere, but I still saw deer and bear on my trip. Plus some of the glaciers are pretty far off.

    Thanks gents,

I think I will go rent an extender before I leave.
