Nice job on the sunsets Mark, let's see what the 7D does.
A few shots from a wander around Brisbane city.

The Treasury Casino buildinga heritage building from the outside, that is now home for the casino, I don't like it inside, as it looks very temporary as they were not allowed to touch the heritage listed interior. Which is a good thing, but there is a feeling that someone is about to run through screaming "cops" and everyone will drop what they are doing and run out. Not a fan of this place, but it is impressive from the outside.

@M_Six: That is a really beautiful series. Can't decide if I like no.1 "spooky tree" or no. 4 "lit stone" best.

@Steve U: That building in that light has a British "Harry Potterish" feel to it. I wouldn't have guessed Australian casino.

I also wanted to share some photos from the weekend when I spent a couple of hours by the sea. Last week we had really warm weather (for the season) and most of the snow and ice melted rapidly. Some ice survived though, and makes various cool patterns/sculptures.

I go here rather frequently but this time was actually the first time my daughter came with me (seems as if she has a growing interest). It looks like she’s capturing the splashing waves.

Maybe she came up with something like this.

This place is crowded with the usual sea-birds, mostly mallards, gulls and swans. I seem to have a thing for swans (lots of swan photos in my archives), but hardly any gull photos. This time though, I took a few gull portraits since they were posing nicely for the camera.

    Thanks for viewing!

@cls - That is awesome that your daughter is starting to be your photography buddy! My daughter goes with me many times on the trails and has yet to pick up a dslr but she does like bringing the p&s and sometimes comes up with better compositon than me! Makes for great bonding times!!

Well, I'm still doing some tabletop photography, practicing lighting set-up (playing with some new toys) and seeing which background colors & materials work and don't work (fabrics, foam boards, etc.) and trying various pp pre-sets.

Flowers are fading fast so I thought I would use them for props for one last day ...

@cls - Great shots. Very colorful. And that BIF shot is perfect.

Nice shots, Denise. Getting your money's worth out of those blooms.

Thanks, Mark! That is alittle out of the ordinary for me and I didn't like it much at first but now it has become one of my favorites.

    Thanks, Steve!

I took a number of different shots so I'm not sure on specific flash settings, etc. I did use my Sigma 85mm and my 580ex II flash on my Manfrotto super clamp & arm at camera right with a stofen omi-bounce diffuser. I laid the flower on one of the square pieces of textured glass that I picked up at the hobby store yesterday. The textured glass works great and comes in lots of different textures and colors @ $5 a square.

In post I used two textured overlays from PhotoTools 2.6 Professional, Grunge Vignette and Wrinkles both set at 90%. That was pretty much it.

    Denise
