So, I tried my 2x TC on the 500 f/4 II. The AF has issues (lots of hunting)...but when locked on...I am not complaining....

Excellent detail as expected!! Pre-focusing and setting the focus limiting switch both help tremendously if you are working within a known distance. You can prevent the system from extreme searching. The results are worth it....great images at 1000mm.

Thanks for the tips. I wasn't thinking about the prefocus points. The distances are pretty set. The HB feeder is down to the right of the perch for my main bird feeders.

I think I found him, but it was harder than I expected. Great picture Stephen.

Thanks for looking! Glad some people are enjoying the search. I wonder if we all see the same puffin...I suspect there are more than one, but may not have the distinctive beak/feet visible (but I know one does anyway). Personally I wish I had stopped down a bit to improve depth of field / sharpness as some of the birds are a bit blurry. But I was trying to keep the iso lower but the shutter speed high since I was on a wildly pitching boat (one of the kids got seasick actually).

    Stephen
