Chaco Cayon, is great, lots of Indian ruins, and it is on the way ( North - West side of NM ) to Monument Valley, I had a 28mm on a film camera ( eq= 17mm on a crop body camera ) and it was wide enough then. It has been years but do not remember much wide life for the 100-400, most of my favorite photos of NW are wide angle ones.

Thanks Gunslinge....I've heard alot about Chaco and it's not too far from my cousin's home. Relatively easy trip for some sunrise/sunset shots....according to him. [^o)]

Good to hear you think the 17-55 will be wide enough...I want to travel light. But don't go assuming the 100-400 is strictly wildlife....I have some nice landscapes in early and late light taken w/this lens, it's more versatile than people think.

    Regards

I can not believe that anyone lives an easy drive from Chaco Canyon, it is in middle of nowhere.

Yes I need to start using my 100-400 for other pictures, I bought it for race cars, and have also used it for bugs, birds and sunsets. I have not utilized it nearly enough for what I payed for it. Landscapes?, I am more of a wide angle person, I like to walk in front of everyone else and still be able to get the picture, with out them in it.

Yeah, I agree about Chaco.....I'm pretty sure he's yanking my chain....it runs in our family's genes.

New England isn't known for it's "Big Sky" views (mountain tops and oceans excepted), so the short end of the 100-400 works well.
