I thought I would share this one of a Cactus Wren I took last fall at Boyce Thompson Arboretum just outside Superior AZ. I was able to get a number of pics with him building his nest.

    Dipper on windy rapids.

Went to see how many dippers were on my favorite spot. Counted 6 different ones =)

Here is one, the weather was not the most desirable, cloudy, -5 degrees and windy. After this photo my lenses AF pretty much froze.

I decided to bundle up and head out in the cold this morning. The temp was -14f and with the wind felt like -35f. It turns out the birds can tolerate a lot more cold than me , I only lasted 2 hours before the sting of the wind got the best of me. I did manage to get a few nice shots but I learned 1 very important thing today,
I really really really miss Florida lol.

Stuart - I see you got the shutter speed up to 1/1000 and 1/1600 seconds. That worked out great... the eyes are killer.

Thanks Pat but the credit goes to you guys for telling me how to get it done. All i did was follow instructions (and freeze me toes).
I had to over expose 1 stop then pull the exposure back in lightroom. Then I applied a radial filter to bring the eye back to its original exposure. Not sure if thats the way to do it , but it looks like it worked lol.

Wonderful shots, Stuart! That Cardinal is thinking that if you are willing to stand out in that kind of weather for a shot of him, he is more than willing to pose just for you ...or he's thinkin', "that dude is absolutely crazy!"

This is a leucistic female Cardinal that has been around a couple of seasons now....
